Apple TV display issue with A/V receiver

Dev Kit Apple TV works great when plugged directly into an HDMI input on the TV, but has flashing screen (about 1-2 times per second) when connected to a home theater A/V receiver. I suspect it's an HDMI problem. Anyone else notice this issue?

Have tried:

- Rebooting ATV

- using three different HDMI cables

- switching among different HDMI ports

It's a popular 2010-model Yamaha 7.1 receiver (HDMI 1.4) that works fine with Apple TV 3rd gen and other peripherals (Blu-ray, camcorder, etc)

Issue is fixed with the GM release! Yay!

🙂

I had a similar problem - trying to use an HDMI to VGA adapter resulted in the Apple TV power LED flashing and then turning off, I suspect possibly due to some sort of a power overload or it sensed an incompatability?

Meanwhile I am still trying to sort out why I am not getting any sound.

To be clear, with my issue, it appears the Apple TV software/OS is functioning normally - it's that the TV screen itself flashes on and off.

This sounds like a hardware/firmware problem in that there's something about being plugged into an intermediary A/V receiver that the Apple TV doesn't like...

Have spent a good hour (to no avail) digging around my receiver set-up options to see if there's some way to get it to work with Apple TV Dev Kit. Will bypass the home theater for now so I can get started with app testing...

Does your receiver have a setting like "HDMI On" or "HDMI Passthrough On"?

You might have to enable or reenable.

Yeah, I've tried all the settings and various connection options multiple times now. 😟

Do you have the Dev Kit ATV successfully running through an AV receiver yourself?

Sadly, no.

I didn't make the cut.

I'll be purchasing one as soon as they are available to the general public.

Problem:

Trying to connect to standard monitor with out a HDMI input, i was connecting through a HDMI->DVI connector.

Solution:

Move a TV next to my desk that takes HDMI and plugged it up with genuine HDMI cord, then a saw a message on the screen about restoring it. The TV comes up as a device like our iphones or ipads would in iTunes. Restore using the file for download sdk page and boom. Although i am just now realising that we do not have access to the app store.

Having the exact same problem with my Yamaha receiver. Good to know it's not just me. I also filed a radar: (22769179).

Thanks!

Hopefully, this is something easily fixed in the next ATV software update.

Anyone else out there testing the Apple TV Dev Kit through a home theater receiver?

Yep, I do, and I have the exact same problem using a Pioneer receiver :-/

Please file a bug at bugreporter.apple.com providing as much detail as possible about the connected equipment (i.e. brands, models, etc). Thanks!
