appleTV v3 dev kit problems on El Capitan

Recieved my appleTV dev kit in Sept. Unboxed, downloaded appleTV OS .ipsw and using iTunes on Yosemite was able successfully transfer the appleTV OS image and get it up and running.... I've updated to El Capitan and latest iTunes and it seems iTunes no longer reconizes the AppleTV dev kit. I have power cycled both Mac and AppleTV dev kit. When USB cable is plugged into mac from AppleTV iTunes does open but then I'm left wondering where to go next as Device sync is not available (all greyed out) and under Library the AppleTV device is not showing up. What's more, if I just right click on the new appleTV OS .ipsw (365h_Resotore.ipsw) and select "open with iTunes" iTunes opens into store front view.

I am on a mid-2012 Mac Book Pro with 8-GB of RAM, all software current. Please help.

Just want to add a few more steps I've taken.

1.) On DevKit went into settings updated tvOS successfully

2.) Powered down tvOS, unplugged HDMI and power cable. Reset iTunes on Mac. Connected appleTV to Mac by USB. Reconnected appleTV power

3.) Nothing happend. Launched latest XCode beta and loaded SpriteKit demo. Devices showing "No devices connected to this Mac"

4.) Performed hard reset on appleTV

5.) Repeated steps 2-3 except this time keeping iTunes closed. On powering the appleTV up while USB connectied, iTunes on Mac OS launches. Some communication between AppleTV and Mac Book Pro is happening

.

This is obviously al Ele Capitan problem. Most likely related to the way older mid-2012 Mac Book Pro USB ports are now handled in the OS. I'm not going to speculate but it has to be somehting as this started as soon as I updated. I understand Apple's primary goal is to get the new OS in the hands of consumers but it's sad that has to come at the sacrifice of Apple's loyal and dedicated development community. I am left completely at a impass and must put my appleTV project on hold. This forum is the only place to turn so when it is silent there are no answers.

Where is the proper place to report this as a bug?

i'm not sure this is an El Cap problem, because I'm seeing the same thing on Yosemite. I was having no problems in Xcode or seeing the AppleTV in iTunes (12.3.something) then the other morning when I went to update to tvOS beta 2 i can no longer see the connected device. Rebooting all the things, trying different USB ports on my mac - nothing.

I'm almost suspecting a broken USB cable? or the USB port on the device?

resolved this.

per the other threads on this the quick summary solution for no Apple TV appearing in iTunes is

1. make sure your USB cable is connected properly. make sure it clicks. make sure you can see the Apple TV in the System Profile when you look under USB devices. you should also be able to see the Apple TV in Xcode under Devices, but you can't restore from there. if you don't see it, some folks suggest flipping the small end of the USB cable or swapping out the cable - there may be some bum cables or bum connections.

2. press and hold the Menu and the Play/Pause button on the paired Apple TV remote for 6-10 seconds. the status light will start blinking and then it will appear in iTunes with the option to restore - hold the Option key when you press restore to select your local .ipsw download

3. profit

Thank you! Yes, this also worked for me. However, the first time I tried holding the Menu + PLay/Pause for six seconds nothing happened. I had to flip the USB-C connector on the AppleTV (no powercycle, just flipped it over) then tried the Menu + Play/Pause reset again and it worked. Thank you for the reply!

well I have slightly different issue. xcode sees the apple tv but it has a qestion mark by it. All worked fine on GM but since I updated to the released el capitan I have not been able to connect to the apple tv.

Im updating my xcode to beta 2 and if that does not do it will restore apple tv. Ill post back my results for others.

well beta 2 of xcode did not recognize the apple tv, just put a ? and says unknown device. Im restoring it now through itunes.
