Apple TV Developer Kit - Missing cable?

I got my Apple TV Developer Kit today - feeling really lucky BUT looks like it's missing a USB-C cable?

I could only find 2 cables out of the box and it's the black power cord and a white USB to lightning cable. After searching in here I found that there should be a USB-C cable included, according to this post: https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/19428

Hopefully I can get one from shops.. Anyone know if this cable is standard/common?

Mine also arrived today, also missing USB-C cable. (Edit: mine was part of batch 2, see below)

Apple do sell a USB-A to USB-C cable (which is what you need to put apps onto the device): http://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/HHSP2ZM/A/belkin-20-usb-c-to-usb-a-cable

well I've purchased the apple usb c to a adaptor from the retail store, not realising that I don't own a usb a to a cable, so had to order that off amazon.

What I found frustrating with this dev kit, is that apple bundle a lightning cable, which EVERY developer in the world has at least one of, yet neglect something that next to no one has.

And I still can't get my mac (new retina) to see the apple tv.

Edit - after reading the comments above 'about this mac' > usb

It shows apple tv, but itunes doesnt recognise it.

any ideas?

cheers

I haven't read any success stories using that configuration. I suspect you'll need the proper cable - that adapter seems to be "one way" for using USB-A peripherals with the MacBook that has only a USB-C port, not the other way around (peripheral e.g. Apple TV with USB-C to computer with USB-A). Don't quote me on it though. I don't have that adapter; I'm just regurgitating what I've read (or not read, in this case).

Can you post a link to the cable you bought or the brand/part number? I'm look at this one but want to make sure it's going to work:

Thanks!

Thanks! Just what I needed (a link to a cable that works!). Wasn't sure if some of the 3rd party cables on Amazon are charge-only but no data like some of the cheap USB cables out there.

If your Mac shows the Apple TV but iTunes does not, you need to place the Apple TV in DFU mode. Hold the

Menu and Play/Pause buttons until the light on the Apple TV begins flashing rapidly. It should then appear in

iTunes.

ATV dev kit is not available here in China and I had to buy the public released ATV 4 from hongkong, no surprise that the USB-C to USB-A cable is not included in the package. When I opened the box and saw the white lightning cable, and just found that there is no lightning port on ATV but the Siri remote, then I connected the remote to my Mac, and I was thrilled to tell my dev mate BEFORE I checked on my Mac -

"Dude, Apple is genius, they do not need us connect Mac to ATV, but the remote.... it is ******* awesome that we don't have to code the app close to the big screen."

And, it is quite embarrsing when I just found it does not work that way and I have to buy a C-A cable.

Thank the "made in china" thing, I got one generic usb-c to usb-a cable for only $2 and it works just fine.

Its funny that they say that its recommended when its really required for most use cases. Managed to snag one from my local Frys.
