Apple TV Developer Kit - Missing cable?

I got my Apple TV Developer Kit today - feeling really lucky BUT looks like it's missing a USB-C cable?

I could only find 2 cables out of the box and it's the black power cord and a white USB to lightning cable. After searching in here I found that there should be a USB-C cable included, according to this post: https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/19428

Hopefully I can get one from shops.. Anyone know if this cable is standard/common?

Mine also arrived today, also missing USB-C cable. (Edit: mine was part of batch 2, see below)

Apple do sell a USB-A to USB-C cable (which is what you need to put apps onto the device): http://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/HHSP2ZM/A/belkin-20-usb-c-to-usb-a-cable

I agree the word "kit" is less correct this round. Technically, it's supposed to be possible to deploy using TestFlight so you could do development without the cable. But realistically, it's required.

I too am about 700 km from the nearest Apple Store and nobody here stocks such cables. But since I know this, I double check what hardware I need well in advance where possible 🙂 Surely there must be an equivalent Australian electronics supplier that can help you?

The Australian Apple Store has the cable available for immediate shipment. (See first post in thread).

Not so in the US. Cable is unavailable.

Yes, I too am a little disappointed with the lack of cable.

I'll just notch it up to "one of those things" while I wait for the cable to arrive.

As I'm also in remote Australia, I'll take your 700km and up it to 1000km from the nearest Apple store. 😉

It's definitely frustrating Apple didn't include the cable. But that may stem from the fact they don't even manufacture and sell a USB-C to USB cable. Which I'm surprised about. I'm sure they are waiting to release an iOS device with USB-C or something. It would've been incredible if they had minted a special batch of Developer exclusive Apple USB-C to USB cables.

But hey they can only do so much right? A free Apple TV months prior to release isn't so bad.

The only problem is, I want to update it... now.

I just recieved my wave 2 Apple TV, and mine came with the Lightning cable, power cable, and a black USB-C to USB cable. I wonder why I got one and others didn't...

Really, I wonder why you wonder?

Shipping pre-packaged product is a complex process. We'll never know why you scored. It's not like they did a background check on you and cherry picked the kit with your name on it, afterall 🙂

Mine came with it as well, also round 2. Maybe they had some leftovers from round 1 with the cables. Mine was a nice surprise however, because I read the fine print and almost bought a cable.

I got a 2nd batch dev kit and mine came with the USB-C cable. Although I was expecting that it wouldn't (I read the email) so I already had another one coming from Amazon tomorrow. I suppose I'll have another USB-C device at some point

How do you connect the remote to the Apple TV? It doesn't have a USB-A port (or at least, my one doesn't). I got a USB-A to Lightening cable, but the only port available is USB-C.

Lucky dog! I'm in the second wave and did not get one. Am making a trip to Microcenter tomorrow to get one.

Spare cables are never wasted. Sooner than later, one will fail. Now you have a spare.

No cable for me either. 😟 Off to Amazon! Why can't we remotely connect to xcode yet?

I bought that cable from Apple and it doesn't work. iTunes (the latest version and I'm running Yosemite) can't see the AppleTV Devkit device The AppleTV Devkit is good as it can be seen on the network and I hitched it to my TV and it boots completely into a useable state so it already has software installed (whether this version of the software is OK for development, I don't know).

didn't get a cable either, and the one I got from the apple store is not good. needed the male usb-a, not female one 😟 And the apple.com com lists is as unavailable, double bummer. Will try to get a male - male usb cable, even though some people seem to report it does not work. We'll see...

Disregard. That cable DOES work. But I still can't see the AppleTV Dev Kit in iTunes but just connecting the USB-C cable and starting up iTunes. I had to put the AppleTV into recovery mode in order to install the beta software. (read step 7 of tvOS_beta_Software_Installation_Guide) tvOS beta Software Installation Guide
