For some reason I can't update my Apple TV OTA to Beta 3, iTunes isn't regongizing it, and any attmept to restore to factory settings fails becuase part of the restore is downloading the latest software, which fails. Anyway to do restore to factory that does not involve downloading the updated software?

Holding the menu and play buttons for 6 seconds until the light flashes on the ATV should put it into restore/install mode via iTunes.
Do you have one of the 2nd round ATVs that some claim came with tvOS installed?
As you first state, what you want is a way to install/update to a working tvOS.
Can you see the ATV via HDMI on a TV?
Are you using a USB-C cable to connect to your computer? If you have a 1st round kit, that would be the black cable.
I have a 1st round unit and used iTunes for #1 & #2 beta tvOS installs, but #3 was accomplised via Wi-Fi.
I'm having the same problem. I haven't been able to update to Beta 2 or Beta 3. I have the first wave Dev Kit with the black cable, and it wont show up in itunes, and when i try to update over wifi, it will download the update and start to install, and then error out and tell me to restart the apple TV and try again. I do this and get in a loop.
Any ideas on how to get it back into Restore mode so i can manually update it?
Restore mode is still the same w/latest kits and done by holding the menu and play buttons for 6 seconds until the light on the ATV flashes.
A couple of ideas.
- The release notes for Beta 3 say that update can fail if the AppleTV is connected to a TV via HDMI,
- The install notes say If iTunes does not recognize Apple TV, place it in recovery mode. To place your Apple TV in recovery mode:
Ensure the Apple TV is connected to your Mac.
This should get iTunes to recognize the AppleTV
