Apple TV and HDMI to VGA adapter

I recently received my Apple TV Developer Kit and already used an USB cable to install tvOS beta. As I'm currently not owning a HDMI television, I tried to use a simple HDMI to VGA adapter to connect Apple TV with a VGA computer screen. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work: The screen doesn't receive any input from Apple TV. Interestingly, upon plugging in the adapter, Apple TV's LED turns off (or is this an expected behaviour?)

Is there a reason why this isn't working? This adapter is known to work with earlier revisions of Apple TV hardware.

Either that (older) adapter doesn't actually support such a connection, or the new ATV (and new HDMI spec?) either prohibits it, or next gen adapters are not public yet.

I'd suggest to revisit the issue once the 2015 ATV hits the streets.

Thanks for replying, KMT.

I replaced the adapter with a new one claiming to be compatible with HDMI 1.4 (which is the HDMI specification used by the new Apple TV) and offering an USB port to provide separate power to the adapter. With this adapter, everything's working fine.

Very good info. 1.4 FTW. - thanks for the followup 😉
