Using Creative Commons licensed material in apps

Hi. My questions are mainly around Creative Commons content and how to properly treat (and document) this content within our app, which is a game for kids. A lot of the music, images, sounds, etc. that we use are Creative Commons licensed, particularly CC by SA.

- Apple does allow Creative Commons licensed content to be used within apps on the App Store, correct?

- Are we allowed to bundle the CC content within the app itself, or should the app download it?

- And do we need to include the Creative Commons licenses in the app folder?

An example of a site where we got some free CC sounds is www.freesound.org and the license is Creative Commons by Attribution: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

I believe a way to compile and give credit to the CC content could be for us to somewhere within our app link to a site(s) where people can download it (if we modified the content), but any guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks!

You MUST:

Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.

In other words, you must provide disclosure WITHIN your app, say in the EULA that discloses the

use of Creative Commons materials used and a link to whatever site that may apply to the original

content used under such license.

You can modify the content any way you wish BUT, you must disclose that you have done so.

Yep, link inside the app would be good, just remember that your dev agreement says you need to provide rights to use should Apple ask, so be ready.
