Xcode 7.2.b.3 and .4 playground still broken

this is almost default playground, i added the print statement, yet playground still

I have the same problem.

Except, those Playgrounds that are OS X based work and those that are iOS based do not.

/shrug I do not have a solution.

OK, just as a data point, I ran Xcode 7.2b4 on my machine (OS X 10.11.1), created an iOS playground, pasted your code into it, and it worked just fine. So clearly this problem is not universal, rather it’s somehow related to your environment.

Did you, perchance, move or rename Xcode 7.2b4 (or any of its parent directories) after running it for the first time. IIRC there’s a warning not to do that in the release notes.

Beyond that, I recommend the standard debugging steps:

try it as a different user
try it on a different machine
try it on a fresh install of OS X (I have a VM set up for this sort of testing)

Also, I haven’t been following your saga closely so I’m not sure if you filed a bug about this already. If not, you should do so. And please post your bug number, just for the record.

Thanks for help.

After xcode finishes installing, i immediately change the name as usually i have several beta versions and non-beta versions of xcode. After the change I don't touch it, I do however point the command line to the latest beta version.

I also have the beta version installed on a remote drive which has the same playground issue, same condition, install, change name, don't touch it unless adding a simulator.

installed xcode 7.2 removed all beta versions, playground still exits and will not run.

iOS broken

OSX works

tvOS work

there are no issues running 7.1.1. what's the difference in ENV?

both point to the same set of command line binaries

Installed xCode 7.2 yesterday. Added the 9.1 simulator and 9.2 documentation. Any - even one with just 'import UIKit" - iOs playground now fails with "Playground execution terminated because the process stopped unexpectedly.". Did not try to run a playground before downloading the 9.1 simulator.

Saw the same thing. Tried completely uninstalling Xcode 7.2, but no luck. Using it as a different user didn't show the same behavior. The user I was having this behavior produced the following logs in Console:

12/13/15 7:04:37.000 PM kernel[0]: Sandbox: MyPlaygroundpls(43677) deny(1) file-read-data /Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes/iOS 9.1.simruntime/Contents/Resources/RuntimeRoot/System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework

Once I removed all simulators, issue went away. I tried adding back 9.1 simulator and the issue came back. Trying to add back all other simulators now to see if any of them bring the issue back.

I'm using Xcode 7.2 (7C68). I'd solve the problem by changing the entry of the runtime value from com.apple.CoreSimulator.SimRuntime.iOS-9-1 to com.apple.CoreSimulator.SimRuntime.iOS-9-2. I'd changed it in the device.plist. In ~/Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/XCPGDevices/ is one or more folder with a UUID as name. In one of this folders is the current device.plist.

Since I installed Xcode 7.2 I have the same issue with playgrounds. Tried completely reinstalling 7.2 with same results. Have only the 7.2 version installed. Does anyone know if Apple has responded to this issue?

Absolute minimum playground fails with "Playground execution terminated because the process stopped unexpectedly."

Got rid of this problem by going to Window=>Devices. There I deleted all devices on 8.2 and 8.4 (just select them and press backspace/delete). I still kept 9.1 and 9.2.

i just tried Xcode 7.3 beta and still the same

iOS broken

OSX works

tvOS work

i'll try some of the other solutoins posted.

i also moved all of the old DeveloperPorta*.db less Xcoce 7.0

removed all devices, 8.0.2 to 8.3

xcode 7.1.1 still works with playgrounds.

all of my devices are ios 9.0 or greater but i think previous versions of xcode may have left some around somewhere that don't show up.

in the device_set.plist i removed all references to previous ios<9 and removed simulators

i tried a playground but it crashes on just opening the simple print string.. ugh....

and these were devices that old references to ios8.* so these were moved to a different Volume

it took drastic steps ut i got the xcode 7.3 beta playground to work. i couldn't track down why the device plist was not accepting my changes, so i ended up nuking the entire ~/Library/Developer but when i restarted Xcode, it re-created the directory, so each Xcode version maintains it own copy somewhere in its structure.

here's how to get it to work

i copied the developer lib to an external disk and unmounted the disk so Xcode couldn't search and find it, it has all of your settings, colors schemes

nuke ~/Library/Developer

nuke Xcode*

installed fresh Xcode7.3beta

bam! playgrounds work
