Dear iOS developers: I must complain about the “Erase iPhone" function in Find iPhone app to all of you and hope you can make some updates based on that. I was surprised that everything in the iPhone including the Apple ID which is used to sign in Find iPhone will be erased after clicking the "Erase iPhone" button. I think it was a really bad design. And I am now using a true experience to demonstrate how terrible it is. My friend's iPhone was stolen last weekend. She turned on the lost mode via Find iPhone immediately when she found the cell phone was disappeared. But in order to avoid of leaking personal information, she accidentally, and I guess she was not supposed to, hit the "Erase iPhone" button. Then she saw "No devises registered" on the screen. I guess it is possible to get back her iPhone if she didn't erase the data. But for now, she just helped the thief to reset the cell phone. And she can't find her phone anymore. I assume that the Find iPhone was designed for enlarging the possibility of chasing back those lost devices. But it seems the Erase iPhone function is taking the negative effects. Users will loose trace via Find iPhone immediately when the iPhone is erased. And I would say that there is a huge number of Apple devices users don't notice that, like my friend. So I think it is important to update this function, and I have several advises. One possible improvement is to change the objects that will be erased. As a CS major student, I didn't see big difficulties of doing that. More over, you have several erasing options in the setting menu. So my assumption is it is possible to change the erasing objects in Find iPhone. Another way of improvement, which I think is more direct, is to remove the Erase iPhone function. I guess the Lost Mode function has already covered the erase function since in the lost mode nothing could be done to the iPhone except inputting the password and calling the owner. In that case those personal information will be securely stored in the iPhone until the lost mode is relieved. So there is no need for people to erase the iPhone while the lost mode is turned on. So at the end of my complaint, I really hope you can reconsider and redesign the Erase iPhone function in Find iPhone app. And hope users personal information can be securer to stored in their iPhones. Sincerely, Alan
Bad design of Erase iPhone function in Find iPhone app
Clearly, you don't understand how Find My Phone works. The device must be on and
connected to the internet to be seen. Erasing the phone does not remove it from iCloud
nor Find My Phone. In fact, the person in possesion of the phone must know and use
the owners actual Apple ID and password to even use the device.

See...homework, just like I said.
Let's hope the next class is how to use the return key.
