PDF version of documentation

Why is the pdf download of most documentation being removed? I really don't want to stare at my screen all the time and the iPad is just another screen. I would really like to print some of this stuff out so I can work with it off line.

You can select each individual "chapter" and print it (or make a pdf via the print dialog). Individual chapters can be save as pdfs and re-assembled as a single doc (by e.g. using Preview) but this does get tedious rather fast.

What I find more annoying is that that there is no longer a easy way to get a single document that can be searched or annotated.

Allowing access to the doc as a "single html page", would work as a alternative to the pdf solution, as this would still solve the issues a lack of pdfs poses:

  • It would still be a single action to print the doc.
  • Pdfs could still be created for annotation purposes.
  • With the right browser extension it may also be possible to annotate the html file directly, especially if it's a offline (non-changing) copy.
  • Having a single doc makes it much easier to search through individual guides - with the multiple web page chapters we're stuck with basically googling for stuff and hoping to find the correct guide and chapter.
