Which one is the most preferable language either swift or objc for brand new sdk development and maintenance?

If we choose swift then will it support iOS 7 deployment target? We tried to add Swift sdk into iOS 7 supporting app with weak linking option, but it does not support, it created compiler error. It would great if you give us a suggestion, like if we develop our sdk/framework with Objective C to support iOS 7 then will it be good in future for further development and maintenance.

Thank You.

It's hard to connect the 'future' and iOS7, actually. It's time now to drop support that far back, I believe.

Do you have another example?

You do know that iOS7 is only installed on less than 6% of iOS devices and falling by the month, right?

But yeah, if you need iOS 7, go with Objective-C. The first version of Swift was introduced with iOS 8 so I don't even know if it's possible to compile a Swift app for iOS 7, probably not.

Swift supports deployment back to iOS 7.

jeevan, if you’re having problems deploying a Swift app to iOS 7, please post details about the problem and we can take a look.

Having said that, I agree with @ben’s analysis that there’s really no point in supporting iOS 7 if you’re creating a new app. iOS 7 use is already minuscule, and will be even more so by the time your app is finished.

Thank you all so much. Your responses helped us a lot about to make our final decision, we decided to go with Swift and iOS 8+.
