Restore WatchOS to 1.0

Ladies, and Gentlemen As I am no genius on this, I guess it was just by luck that i was able to figure this out. I also was one of you that jumped the gun and installed all the Beta OS. On my Applewatch, iPad, iPhone, OS X. But as Beta goes, they are all but too buggy for everyday use. So to the good stuff. I have highlighted the info below that will help solve this head ache!!

Pre-work: Make sure your iPhone that the watch is synced to and has the old back up is still running iOS 9. It will need to find the backup 1.0 Applewatch file

Step 1. Factory Restore Applewatch

Step 2. Sync Watch manually do not use the QR scanner as it only reads the 2.0 profile

Step 3. Restore from backup any previous 1.0 back up. 1.0.1 backups will not work as it was an OTA update

Step 4. Let watch do it's magic

And........wait for it, wait for it..... Repaired!! Back to WatchOS 1.0

Follow OTA update back to 1.0.1 and recover your backup file.

I suggest everyone remove iOS9 as well after the watch is fully restored.

Thank you.

Update: This does not work. Even though it takes the icloud back up of 1.0 it still shows watch on 2.0Beta? so frustrating!

Has this actually worked for anyone ?

This does NOT work fyi

Not working for me

This won't work - the reset/restore from backup process *does not* restore the 1.x WatchOS - it only resets app and sync data.

Unless you can find a way to get a copy of the actual full WatchOS file, there is *no way back* from WatchOS 2.

I have a copy of the full WatchOS file but I have no idea how to load it onto the watch...wanna pm me?

Accepted Answer

There is not a way to go back from watchOS 2 to a previous version. This is outlined in the watchOS beta Software Installation Guide. If you have run into issues installing watchOS 2, please visit support.apple.com for assistance.

What should I do If watch laggy... all apps stopped working. heart rate not working

Behrens,

Can a Genius at an Apple Store help us with an out of warranty factory reset to 1.01?

Thanks

You should visit bugreport.apple.com. That is the best way to let us know about issues you are running into. Thank you!

I am not aware that they can do this in-store. You should visit support.apple.com for assistance.

I normally hate complaints about running betas, so I know this is hypocritical, but really disappointed with this beta, as even if I wanted to run to the Apple Store and buy an Apple Watch just for testing, I am unable to as they're not available for purchase. I know we jumped the gun I guess, I just expected there to be some reasonable level of QA that went into this release.

But I get no notifications, weather has me in the south Atlantic Ocean, Siri doesn't work, most of the time I raise my wrist the device doesn't recognize the gesture, none of my glances are working, and half of the time I go to install an app, the watch tells me that there is no space available despite there being about 5GB free. If I file a radar, it'll get marked as a dupe, and I can't take it to the Apple Store because the genius will tell me that it's an out-of-warranty repair/issue, as I've installed a beta OS.

I was having a lot of those issues with this beta but I found that if you erase all settings and set up the watch as a new watch these problems mostly go away.

There is no way for a Genius to do a restore of the watch in the retail store at all.

So I've done that but I still find Siri is unusable. Are you saying you have the same performance as watchOS1 with Siri? Or are you saying that the features 'work'? Interested to know if it actually is attainable to get usability back!
