iMAC extremely sluggish after upgrading to Big Sur

PLEASE HELP!!!

I upgraded from El Capitan 10.11.6 to Big Sur 11.0.1 and my iMAC has slowed down drastically. I regret upgrading. Should have waited for a stable version.

This is what I have:
MacOS Big Sur (Version 11.0.1)
iMac: (21.5-inch, Late 2015)
Processor: 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536 MB

I see there are several other people who are facing the same issue. Request Apple to look into this ASAP. PLEASE HELP!

UPDATE: I searched for solutions online and found some really good sites. Unfortunately it's not allowing me to paste links here. Uninstalling unused apps, updating newer versions of the essential apps and deleting unnecessary apps that were opening up at startup made a huge difference. It takes couple days for the performance to improve so having patience helps.
