No email notification for answers to own posts

It's been known for at least 4 months that there is no email notification for answers to own posts, like an Apple engineer confirmed here https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/656787?login=true

Why does it take so long to fix a basic issue like this? How long will we have to check daily for new answers without being able to count on a simple notification?

there is no email notification for answers

Normally I’d recommend that you file a bug against DevForums describing your requirements but in this can I assure you that the folks involved are well aware of the need for this feature. I cannot, alas, say anything more beyond that. I’m not allowed to discuss The Future™.

  • Do you see what I mean with „frustrating“? In 7 months no single update about this notification issue. I would think that this is one of the first things to fix in order to improve productivity, but apparently whoever decides what’s important and what’s not has another opinion, which remains undisclosed. The frustration comes from these two things: the timeframe and the silence.

  • Evolutions on the forum are pretty slow effectively. We waited for years to post images. As for the silence, remember there are tens of millions of FB. I imagine it's hard to reply to each individually. For checking answers to my own posts, I pinned the profile page - https://developer.apple.com/forums/profile/Nickkk - and so I can immediately see if there's a new answer.

  • I probably miss something here. If you hit the bell on the thread, don't you receive a mail when an answer is posted ? I did this on some of my questions and did receive a notification.

Thanks for speaking to us. It's just frustrating when you don't hear anything for months about a feature that is as basic and important as an email notification.

@Nickkk I do confirm it works for me (experienced today). There was an answer posted to one of my own message for which I had activated the bell. I received a mail notification within minutes.

Note however that my own answers to my post do not trigger a mail notification, which seems logical.

  • I posted a bug report as well as a post on this forum. And got some feedback from Frameworks Engineer  here:    https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/688144 Let's hope it's corrected soon.

  • I‘m confused now. Did it work 2 weeks ago and now it doesn’t work anymore? I never saw that bell, but if that was the answer to my problem, then why did everybody remain silent while I was complaining and waiting for a solution (that is, everybody except you)?

Yes, in general. The problem discussed on that other thread is new. Prior to that notification emails were working fine for most folks.

As to why they weren’t working for you, that’s hard to say. Once the general problem is fixed you should re-test and then post back here if it persists for you specifically.

@Nickkk Just in case, here is where the bell is (but it doesn't work for me at this time).

Hello all, thanks for notifying us about this. We've identified the issue and deployed a fix. You should be getting email notifications for thread activities moving forward.

Nickkk, you should retest and see if this fixed things for you as well.

That's great to hear. Can anybody reply to see if I receive anything?

  • Thanks, it works. Now I only have to activate the bell for every thread I created.
