Problem with Terminal App and Window Groups

Hello.

Apple Support has directed me here.

Some basic details.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

OS X El Capitain Version 10.11.6 (15G1108)

Terminal Version 2.6.1 (361.1)

When I start ther Terminal App I want it to start with a number of windows that open in s Window Group. I have done this by saving my own window group which has the windows, directories and arrangements and sizes. I have set the Terminal->Properties->Gerneral->On startup, open: to be "Window group:" and I have selected my previously saved Window Group. This has worked correctly on previous versions of OS X on my older MBP 2012 and has until recently worked without problems on my current MBP, although beacuse I use Terminal infrequently I can not say for certain which (if any) of the recent updates have caused the below problem to occur.

I have the Terminal App permanatly in my Dock (I have set it's Dock Option to "Keep In Dock")

When I click the Terminal App Icon in the Dock the Terminal App starts (a little dot apprears below the icon) but my window group, nor any terminal windows open.

If I click the Terminal App Icon in the Dock a second time (once it has opened) a default basic terminal window opens.

If I navigate to the Applications Folder in the Dock, and then Utilities and click the Terminal App Icon there, Terminal starts and opens my Window Group as expected.

I have removed my Terminal App from the Dock, started Terminal from Dock->Applications->Utilities (which opens the Window Group correctly) and change the Terminal App Dock Options to "Keep in Dock". After closing Terminal and using the Dock Icon I get the same problem as listed above (no window groups or terminal windows open) but Terminal starts and has a dot below it.

If I navigate Dock->Applications->Utilities and click "Open in Finder" and then double click the Terminal App icon in the resulting finder window I get the same problem as listed above (no window groups or terminal windows open) but Terminal starts and has a dot below it.

I would like to be able to have the Terminal App Icon permanantly in th Dock and for it to be able to open my desired Window Group when I click it.

Can anyone assist please?

Regards,

Steve

To add some further information.

This problem may be related to additional displays:

I have a Thunderbolt display connected to my MBP more often than not.

I have several desktops per display

The Terminal App Dock Icon is set to Assign To: None

After a fresh log-out and log back in with the Thunderbolt Display connected the Terminal App works correctly with Widow Groups.

If I unplug my Thunderbolt Display the Terminal App Dock Icon begins exhibiting this problem. I often do this when taking my laptop to meetings etc.

When I plug the display back in the Terminal App Dock Icon continues to exhibit this problem.

A log back out and back in again allows the Terinal App Dock Icon behaves as expected.

Regards,

Steve
