Unable to upgrade from WatchOS1 to Beta2

I skipped installing beta 1 on my iPhone and watch. Yesterday I installed beta 2 on my iPhone which resulted in my loosing pairing with my watch, which is still on watchos1. I managed to repair the beta2 iPhone with the watchos1 watch, but after repeated installs of the beta2 watch profile, the watch app still says that the watch is already on the latest version (1.01). The iPhone is registered in devices on the developer portal. Am I missing a step? Wasting much time with this. Thanks

OK, saw this on MacRumors forums of all places. You need to install the profile TWICE. Once on the iPhone, and then on the watch. Seems obvious? It's not written in the Apple instructions.

OK, gonna call this a day with the Watch. I'm telling the Fortune 500 I'm currently consulting with that the process isn't ready for prime time. I understand that this is new territory, but the lack of DFU on the watch and reliance on iPhone update is a deal killer. There should be a developer cable available that would enable direct access to the hardware. Also amazed at the complete lack of input from Apple in these forums - they seem perfectly happy to leave folks flailing.
