Arduino / RPi Hardware Development

Hello!


I'm interested in making a custom solution for my home using arduino / RPi and HomeKit, if possible. I saw that you must get an MFI in order to have access to the dev kit for accessories. Does that mean I cannot hook up my own custom solution to, say, turn lights on via Homekit?


If it is possible, how do I accomplish this on a custom, non-commerical basis?

I achived some interesting things (such as turning on lights with Siri) using rPi + arduino WiFi using Homebridge. Of course this is not ufficially supported by Apple and does not let you tu use Siri outside the same network where the rPi is present. If you want to have access to your virtual HomeKit accessories you must have an Apple TV in the same network connected to iCloud.

Anyway it's a gret tool to have some fun with
