Minimum Hardware requirements for running RealityKit and Photogrammetry

Hi!

I'm really excited to try the new ObjectCapture API. I have a iPhone 12 Pro (with the lidar) but have a old MacBook. I'm planning to get a new MacBook to run the RealityKit and Photogrammetry software, as given in this example: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2021/10076/.

Are there any restrictions on the Mac hardware or is it fine as long as they support macOS 12.0+ Beta and Xcode 13.0+?

Thanks!

Hi, there are restrictions on the supported Mac hardware. I believe the requirements are listed in the video you linked. Do you know which MacBook you are planning to buy?

Thanks for the response! I believe there are 2 options on the market now (Sept 2021):

Option 1: 13inch, Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, 8GB unified memory 256GB SSD storage, 13-inch Retina display with True Tone, Magic Keyboard, Touch Bar and Touch ID, Force Touch trackpad, Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports

Option 2: 13 inch, 2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz, Intel Iris Plus Graphics, 16GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory, 512GB SSD storage, Touch Bar and Touch ID, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports

You should probably go with the M1 laptop then. All Apple Silicon laptops should support the APIs, but I think that the Intel one you described will not, since the Intel Iris Plus GPU is an integrated GPU, and I believe the APIs only run on discrete GPUs. The 16 inch laptops with AMD discrete GPUs should be compatible though. But double check the requirements listed in the developer video.

You should go for the new M1 macs preferably with 16gigs of ram if budget allows otherwise go with the 8gigs version. I'm working on an AR project myself, maybe we can get in touch and collaborate?
