Xcode says not enough disk space when there is

When I click "get" and then "install", it says "there is not enough disk space available to install the product".

Xcode on the app store says it's 12.5 Gb. When I go to About This Mac > Storage I have over 43 Gb available. What am I missing here?

My mac is fully up to date, Big Sur 11.6. Mid 2014 13" MbPro.

43 GB is really a lower limit to install Xcode:

  • 12 GB for compressed
  • Plus more than 30GB decompressed
  • plus some extra space during installation before removing older version.

I noticed you need at least 50 to avoid problems. I personally check to have 60, but it is not always possible.

Make sure also to empty trash.
