A similar issue with MBP 16 (2019). Worked fine until upgrade to Monterey. There were some issues resulting in screen of death during the upgrade, but the laptop has booted eventually. Since then I suffer from a black screen while trying to wake up my Mac. I suspect it still runs at the moment, because my phone is able to charge while being plugged by a USB-C cable. Then I long-press the power button, the phone stops charging. Finally, I press power button to turn it on. When I log in, I constantly see the error message about some problem. Additionally to such behaviour, the OS sometimes crashes at the moment the laptop is about to go to sleep. I do not recall any situations like that during me working actively, though.
