I have a question about ApplePay from the view of merchants. While a merchant accepts an ApplePay payment, they can actually decode the Payment Token to get a DAN (Device Account Number) used for checkout. It is functionally equivalent to the PAN of the original card for charge purposes. We used to be able to tell the issuing bank of the credit card from the original PAN (specifically BIN). However, this DAN number is generated for ApplePay specific usage and we could not get that information anymore as the original BIN is now hidden from the merchant by ApplePay.
I am curious if Apple has any mechanism/API to provide those bank/card information to merchants. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
