Can I take photos from an android device or any camera instead of an ipad or iphone while using the Object Capture API? What negative side effects can it have.
Note: I'm asking this question because I noticed that the size of the usdz model has grown too much in my experiments. (For example 200mb instead of 20mb)
Yes, you may use photos captured with an Android device or any another camera in Object Capture API. A negative side effect could be that your resulting model may not be up to the correct scale if you do not use an iPhone/iPad with depth sensor. Also, you may lose the added advantage of excellent image quality that iPhones provide, which is very important for high quality 3d reconstruction.
The size of the models depends on detail level you specify. Please refer to PhotogrammetrySession.Request.Detail to understand the expected final size of 3D models.
