AVPlayer and Quicktime : poor sound at reduced playback speed in Monterey

I'm working on a "play along" application for practicing musical instruments while listening to audio/video at speeds below 100%. This has worked wonderfully on all of my Macs running Big Sur and some previous versions of MacOS. I've upgraded my M1 iMac to Monterey and now audio is garbled at playback speeds below 100%.

I'm using AVKit / AVPlayer in my application. This issue also affects the QuickTime application playback at 1/2 speed.

I'm developing this on an M1 iMac running Monterey. I've tested it on my Intel Macbook Pro running Monterey with the same results. It was fine on those machines running Big Sur.
