ok, I am kinda new to app development. and what i am confused about is how do developers get images/graphics/photos etc for their app. Say, I am making a recording APP and i want a Microphone image (Drawn/animated, not real microphone) so How do i do it? is there an app in Macstore that lets you create a picture? Till now i have always used contents on the web that are listed as "Free for commercial use", but i want my own now? Do i have to learn or buy Photoshop for this? basically how do i get files for image assets?
Where to get or create images or pictures for app?
So far I've used either free or commercially purchased artwork from the web, or draw it myself using Inkscape or Inkpad. For basic photo editing there is GIMP (free), Pixelmator (dirt cheap for what you get), and lots of other options.
That may be penny wise and pound foolish though; I'm not sure. Having a real graphic designer do your artwork may pay off if your app ends up with that intangible quality of being enjoyable to use.
The middle ground could be a place like fiverr.com where you can hire designers (of varying skill) on the cheap.
There are many ways to get images.
One way is to make them yourself by using software like Photoshop (costs $) or GIMP (free).
Another is to hire someone. I found an artist through Craigslist and she's getting equity in the app rather than upfront payment. You can also go onto freelance sites such as Freelancer.com or Elance.com to hire an artist.
Thanks a lot for both of your answers guys.
