What is calendar day view built with?

When I go into the Apple provided Calendar app and jump to a specific day, and then turn off the row icon in the nav bar, it shows 12am to 12am and draws out the calendar items with background rectangles.

I'm trying to figure out how they would have done that. Originally I figured just a UITableView, but the times printed are sort of "outside" the bounds of what the cell would be.

Do you think it's just a UIScrollView with a custom drawRect to do everything?
