I need to make use of Apple Root CA - G3 root CertificateAuthority (CA) certificate in my code and I wonder how often does Apple update this certificate and when update takes place how do I get notified that the certificate has been updated and I need to download a new copy?

You can use Keychain Access to get info on the G3 cert to check those details.
Mine says:
- Not valid before: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11:19:06 AM Pacific Daylight Time
- Expires: Saturday, April 30, 2039 at 11:19:06 AM Pacific Daylight Time
= 25 yrs. total, or 22 yrs from now.
If the last episode w/the WDRC cert is any indication, there will be no notification and yes, when expiration occurs, a download of the new one is typically involved.
