We recently added a notificaiton service extension in order to add images to iOS 10 rich push notifications. This works (mostly*) as expected for iOS and the push notifications get a nice little thumbnail attached to them. However, when those same notifications go to the Apple Watch only the image appears - not any of the notificaiton alert text. This is somewhat troubling since the images themselves do not give a complete sense of what the notification is about.
Given that you can't customize the short-look interface for Apple Watch notifications does anyone know how we can either get the text to appear in addition to the image on the Apple Watch, or at least conditionally disable the notification service extension when we know the notification is going to appear on the watch instead of the phone?
* The reason I say that the images mostly work on the phone is that it seems like the first notification to trigger does not fire up the notification service extension - only subsequent push notificaitons show the image, say after a reboot of the device.
