Swift Assist

Hi,

I'm testing out Xcode 16 beta and I have a couple of questions:

  1. Is Swift Assist only available on Sequoia? I see that predictive code completion is per https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/06/apple-empowers-developers-and-fuels-innovation-with-new-tools-and-resources/, but I tried the beta on Sonoma and I'm not seeing it
  2. Regarding Swift Assist - I understand that code is only used to process requests and never stored on servers, and Apple will not use it to train machine learning models. However, my company's security team may still decide that using Swift Assist is too much of a risk. How can we disable it across multiple developer machines?

Thank you!

As noted in the Xcode 16 Highlights Page, Swift Assist is coming later this year. More information will be available then.

  1. I'm current on Sequoia/ Xcode 16, it works

Swift Assist did not work on Sonoma for me. Predictive code completion seems to be working thus far. However, the more advanced prompt options are probably not available yet

  2. If you're talking about disabling predictive code completion and suggested completions while typing. Xcode < Settings < Text Editing. I believe the options you were looking for maybe be in here here. You can also uninstall the model in components.

Hi, is there any update on the release? 2024 is coming to an end quickly..

Same, we just got Sequoia 15.2, any news about Swift Assist?

Putting my 2 cents in here - it's 12/27 and Swift Assist doesn't seem to be available yet.

It's now 2025, and I still don't see Swift Assist, or a new release date o3o.

Hello, everyone and @Documentation Engineer. As you can see, Apple won‘t respond. They may have silently cancelled Swift Assist due to the technical challenges they’re facing with Apple Intelligence. Use this product instead: Alex Sidebar. I found it to be reliable and helpful. It’s backed by YCombinator.

Xcode 16.3 and still no Swift Assist. WWDC25 is around the corner....

Yeah, crazy... I could really use Swift Assist to deal with some SwiftUI problems I'm having. None of the LLMs are particularly good at SwiftUI, and seem to be wasting more of my time than they're saving. When, Apple???? You're the only ones with the data and the incentive to build a really knowledgeable Swift coding LLM.... super frustrating. This should be a no-brainer for Apple.

Unfortunately Apple are so far behind the AI curve right now. They spent so much time on the useless AR glasses that every other company has killed off. I think TC thought the AR was his iPhone moment. Should have spent the time and money on AI like everyone else. Code complete is a joke compared to VSCode with copilot.

I hope WWDC gives us some news about Swift Assist. We really need a better LLM for Swift, imho.
