Ever since I updated to iOS 18 (and Beta 18.1), Face ID does not work on my iPhone 13

I never had an issue with Face ID prior to the 18 update. A few days after the update, it stopped working. I tried resetting it, which resulted in the phone not registering a face at all and a pop up saying “Face ID is unavailable.”

I then updated to Beta 18.1, which fixed it (so I thought). It’s been 2 days since I did that update, and now my Face ID is down again and won’t allow me to set an alternate appearance or reset it completely. It doesn’t work to open my phone or on any apps I have configured to use Face ID for log in.

My front camera doesn’t have any damage, and I’ve tried restarting the phone a bunch of times, but nothing works. Any ideas or fixes?

Don’t worry it’s not working on my brand new 16 Mac Pro. And i complaoning about 2/3 times a day about this issue, since I update to 18.2 things got worst, now between switching apps I’m having vertical colorful lines appearing for few seconds, it’s irritating and scary

I’m having the same issue with my iPhone 16 with 18.2, I got my haircut two days ago and then Face ID stopped working. I can’t reset Face ID because stolen device protection is on and I can’t turn off stone for dice device protection without Face ID. So I’m stuck

Exactly the same issues with Beta 18.2 FaceID wouldn't work and revert to manual default passcode authorisation to unlock phone

This is what worked for me:

Open settings
Find the one that says camera and click on it.( it's two below general)
Scroll down till you see scene detection and turn it off.(you can turn it back on after you redo Face ID if you want)
Verify Face ID works if it doesn't reset it then it should work after setting it back up again.

I can not promise this will fix your issue this is just the solution that worked for me on a iPhone 12 after updating to IOS18.2 . I was having no luck finding a solution that worked online so I done my own research and set down to fully read the description of what 18.2 was bringing to the table and it lead me to believe it could be a issue with the new software in the camera that's how I came across this and tried it because scene detection was not a option before 18.2
