Hello radine! Xcode is a free download and the program required for iOS app developement.
Though no experience is needed, it is highly recommended to at very least take some online course training in advance. i.e. udemy dot com

But yes, it helps, and I'm not sure I would describe it as self explanatory...more like non-trivial, requiring significant patience, imagination and curiosity, coupled with the willingness to DIY research, and the ability to ask specific questions when stuck on a given issue.
