Using Waze in Carplay

I don't think they've made any announcements about supporting third-party mapping apps in CarPlay. As far as I know CarPlay is still limited to audio apps, messaging apps, VOIP apps, and apps from automobile manufacturers.

That's so 1920 thoughts. Why isn't working with another apps. Waze, Tomtom, Whatsapp etc etc.. I think when Apple want to be a future company, it has to start open there Apple CarPlay for other apps...

Come on Apple, GO GO GO!!

I want Waze too although the new features in the iOS 11 beta has met most of my needs. While Apple may have a business reason for exclusively providing Apple Maps for CarPlay right now, there is also a safety reason against Waze - that being the social interaction require too many steps and would distract from driving.

But there is a way I could envision it working. My VW Jetta has a motion sensing screen where CarPlay is displayed. If Waze re-designed the app so that when my hand approached the screen that generic buttons appeared for police, construction, road hazard, or car by road, that would provide minimal distraction with one-touch feedback. Currently, the way Waze does it requires too many steps to be fast, accurate and safe. Siri could even be integrated so that when I pass a spot, I can audibly confirm if the police/hazard/car etc. was there or resolved.

Or it may be that Apple is working on designing those things into Maps as well for IOS 12. Apple doesn't always want to be first, but they do want to be right. And safety while driving is critical as each new feature creates a broader risk surface for lawsuits.
