iMessage apps do not launch in iOS 26

In iOS 26, on iPad (as least, but maybe phone too, yet to test) if you tap an iMessage (a second time) that should launch an iMessage App, it does not launch app.

Has anyone else seen this - it makes many iMessage app unusable.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Send a message that launches iMessage on tap.
  2. Tap message on recipient's device.
  3. Observe iMessage App open.
  4. Dismiss iMessage
  5. Tap message again
  6. Observe nothing happens, app is not launched.

Thank you for your post, and I apologize for the delay. I do not believe this issue is affecting other developers, as it has not yet received an answer. I recommend updating to the latest version of iOS 26 beta to see if that fixes the issue.

The Apple Developer Forums are for questions about APIs and features intended specifically for developers. I would recommend to submit a feedback on the beta version and to include a screen recording with touch enable can help.
