Somehow, I have entered with some people in a discussion about creating an NFC based app for iPhone, I know that the NFC chip, for now, is only used with ApplePay technology, but these people argues that the iPhone 6 specs states that it includes a Proximity Sensor, which is correct. What I need is, some documentation or spec sheet (Apple official of course) where I can demonstrate that the iPhone sensor can not be used with NFC tags. Anyone knows where can I found or how can I demonstrate this???
How to demonstrate NFC chip is only for ApplePay
The iPhone has a proximaty sensor, the NFC chip does not. NFC in the iPhone
is passive, not active. The actual chip is an NXP66V10 but there is very little public
information available.
The proximity sensor has absolutely nothing to do with the NFC chip. It's a light sensor that is sitting next to or around the speaker and front camera of your iPhone (and it has been there since the first iPhone, before iPhones had front facing cameras or NFC).
iOS 11 does give third-party apps the ability to read NDEF-formatted NFC tags, which expands the capabilities of the NFC chip of iPhone 7 devices (and newer) beyond Apple Pay.
