Adobe Premiere Pro & External Graphics Development Kit by Apple

Hello guys,

i'm really interested in getting the "External Graphics Development Kit" with the Radeon 580 RX 8GB.

But is there already benefit (with High Sierra) in using it for Rendering/Converting Videofiles with Adobe Premiere Pro CC/After Effects or Media Encoder?

Do anyone have experiences in using the eGPU Dev Kit with Adobe products?

Theoretically the "External Graphics Development Kit" hast nearly ~6 times of processing power than my current MacBook Pro 2016 or ~3 times of a High End MacBook Pro 2017

Best regards.

Interested as well! Do anyone have experiences in using with Adobe Premier realtime playback and render?

I've got the Apple eGPU kit. As of macOS 10.13.2 no Adobe CS 2018 apps see the eGPU properly and none of them actually use it if they do see it. Some even refuse to load up, including Premier and just crash.

I want it for Blender 3D rendering using OpenCL and until 10.13.2 the eGPU wouldn't work at all with it. But with 10.13.2 it will work and can work quite well. The performance is still not what I was hoping for and seems to be about 50% of the expected result.

However Apple's Metal 2.0 and various other OpenCL benchmarks do perform extremely well and appear to be almost on par with other platforms so hopefully Blender and indeed the Adobe CS apps will eventually work better too.

Until Apple sorts out the login / log out / crash / kernel panic / can't sleep thing with it though it's darned horrible to use.

I tried the box on Windows 10 and it was a triumph of joy to use. So Apple have some catching up to do.

When you tried it with Windows 10 was it duel booted via Bootcamp on a Mac? As I've ordered a development kit and so far the only information I can find is 6-7ish months old saying that people always get error 12 when they try to use it with Bootcamp, there doesnt appear to be any recent information about it.

Never mind, error 12 is still present in bootcamp when you try to use the eGPU, both when it's plugged in at boot and when it's hotswapped
