Folder and file names won't rotate when repeatedly pressed their starting letter

I have various folders named say David Decline Dollar

If I press the letter D, Finder highlights David, and nothing else. If I keep pressing dddd it doesn't move. However, if I start typing "De" it will jump to Decline.

The behaviour is also weirder.

David (file) Decline (folder) Dollar (folder)

Sometimes pressing D will skip the file and never highlight it, it will jump straight to Decline.
