Logs from NetworkExtensions are absent in the Xcode console

Hello,

It seems that starting Xcode 27, the logs from NetworkExtensions do not show up in the Xcode Console anymore. They still show in Console.app somehow.

I have filed a bug report (FB24985332) about it, if you encounter the same issue, please upvote this so that the NetworkExtension team can fix this faster, thanks !

Thanks. From that I was able to quickly track down what’s going on. It seems that this is a known bug )-:

You might be able to work around this as by setting the IDEPreferLogStreaming environment variable to YES in the scheme you use when you attach to the NE appex.

IMPORTANT When you attach, not when you run, but that shouldn’t come as a big surprise to folks working with NE appexen.

As always, I encourage you to retest with new beta releases as they are seeded. As you do that, make sure to remove the workaround, otherwise it’ll mask any fix.

I’m all for that sort of thing in general, but in this case that’s not necessary (-:

Apologies, this did not come out the intended way. I only meant to suggest to upvote this for visibility. I'm fairly certain the engineering team is working as hard as they can !

I'm happy to report that the fix works as intended otherwise.

I had found a workaround which consisted of "running" the NetworkExtension target (which Xcode complains it cannot do) and then selecting the host application when prompted which target to run. This would magically make the logs appear in the console.

I am guessing it's because of the new restrictions that Xcode27+ will only log "what target it ran" and not what it attached to.

But it matters not, thank you for the very quick fix !
