Removing iPad support from a published Universal iOS app (409 on upload)

My app was published as Universal (iPhone + iPad). I changed TARGETED_DEVICE_FAMILY to "1" in all targets and removed UISupportedInterfaceOrientations~ipad from Info.plist. Uploading the new build fails with:

"This bundle does not support one or more of the devices supported by the previous app version." (error 409)

Is it possible to change a published Universal app to iPhone-only? If yes, what steps are required? If no, what is the recommended way to make the app iPhone-only?

from what I understand cause I experienced the same issue as well, you cannot undo that once you go forward with it

Thanks for the reply.

I came across a suggestion that Apple Developer Support might be able to remove iPad support from a published app on their side, which would allow an iPhone-only build to be uploaded. I contacted Developer Support, but they said they can't help with technical questions, so I haven't been able to verify this.

Could anyone confirm whether a published Universal app can be changed to iPhone-only? If it is possible, which team handles it and how do we request it? If not, what is the recommended path?
