Hi everyone,
Our multiplayer app’s iOS update was rejected under Guideline 5.1.1(v). App Review said users should be able to purchase non-account-based in-app purchases without registering with personal information.
Our hosting model includes:
- Three free hosted matches per user, with limited features.
- Paid packs of 5 or 20 hosted matches, and an unlimited-hosting option.
- A wallet that tracks the host’s remaining credits and entitlements in their account.
We explained this model to App Review and are awaiting reconsideration. We understand that storing an entitlement against an account does not, by itself, establish that registration is necessary.
For developers who have dealt with similar cases:
- Would you consider these hosting features account-based under 5.1.1(v), or would you expect Apple to require a guest purchase and hosting flow?
- Have you had success explaining a similar model to App Review?
- Is it worth waiting for their response before implementing guest purchases, or does your experience suggest proceeding with the change?
We’re looking for practical experience and understand that only App Review can decide our submission.
Thanks!
