Xcode 8.3.3 won't download from App Store

I have two issues to ask about:

1.

I have Xcode 8.2.1. In the App Store, it is 8.3.3. When I click on the Update button under the icon, nothing happens except for the waiting/loading spinner next to the prev/next icons. I even let it run overnight. Nothing happens. This is day after day. How do I get the download?

2.

In Xcode, when I click on the Play button to install and run the program on my device, this message appears: “Could not locate device support files. This iPod touch (6th generation) is running iOS 10.3.1 (14E304), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode.” Does that mean the device needs an update, or the device itself is not backwards-compatible with this and later versions of Xcode?

I have OS X El Capitan, 10.11.6. I have 720GB available on the Macintosh HD volume.

You're still not following my process as explained.

There are at least three (3) links to get to where you need to be...you're still only using two.

- (1) Resources leads to...

- (2) Downloads

- Downloads has a link when you scroll down titled 'See more downloads' (do not use the 8.3.3 link on the 'Downloads' page)

- (3) See more downloads leads to the Developer Downloads page (not associated w/the MAS), which has archives of all release versions Xcode, including v8.3.3

- Search the (more) dev downloads site for Xcode 8.3.3, then hit '+' to expand, then tap on Xcode8.3.3.xip to download

I resisted linking directly in an effort to help you learn about that page (we're discouraged from doing that as the links etc. can change), where dev tools, etc. can be found, if in fact Xcode 8.3.3 is what you think you need...but if your macOS doesn't support it, then it's not. Visit the Xcode wiki to learn which versions work with what macOS. If your goal is to work with current iOS, then you need both current Xcode and macOS.

I just tested and the 'more downloads' link did not throw me to the MAS. If in fact this is what it does to you, I can only suggest you (a) confirm to use only Safari (clear caches) on macOS, and/or sit on your hands until tomorrow, at the least, or better yet, wait for the *new tools etc. rush to subside and try later in the week.

*Finally, note we expect Xcode 9 to be released soon, which is why the store may be in a loop right now over 8.3.3 - 'more downloads' is the traditional go-to page when the MAS is offline/acting out/being updated.

Good luck.

1.) Use the 'Resources' link above, then 'Downloads' - once there, scroll down to the bottom and follow the more dev downloads link...search for 8.3.3 there.

2.) Yes, not supported/not back compatible.
