xcode 9 (9A235) horrible performance...

So i updated xcode to 9 after seeing this in the app store

The source code editor has been completely rebuilt for amazing speed. It scrolls at a constantly smooth rate, no matter the files size.

wait

what

cause for now im just force quitting every hour when everything freezes over

swift code highligth/completion is still broken.

and speed is still amazingly super slow.

oh and opening a storyboard still takes forever

someone needs to explain to me how can an editor become so useless

I miss the days i was working with visual studio 😟

Update 9.1 is not better for me either.

Have none apple staff work on this or relpy this post. So shame for apple 😠, may be apple want to developer buy the new iMac pro, thanks to the **** Xcode.

I have found Xcode almost unusable since Xcode 8 appeared. Even for a default MacOS or IOS application with no added user coding the Build process takes 10-20 minutes to complete. I tried remedies suggested by others such as disabling source control, this seemed to work only once. Then I experimented with the build settings. I set embed Swift Standard Libraries to Yes and Index whilst Building to No. I then tried building default MacOS and IOS applications and both completed and ran within a few seconds. I have yet to try this change on my Mac Book or with applications containing significant amount of code but this is the first time I have had Xcode actually build anything in some time.

Took matters into my own hands and renamed SKAgent.xpc in /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/SharedFrameworks/SourceKit.framework/Versions/A so xCode can't run it anymore. Who knows what xCode can't do now, but it seems to work as expected so far and isn't draining my laptop battery at 5x the usual rate. Until Apple stops getting distracted by their piles of money and fixes this thing.

For the new Xcode 9 version, a new computer from Apple must be purchased. That Apple forgot to mention at WWDC'17. BTW: Unfortunately, Apple has not yet built the new computer for Xcode 9 🙂

Interesting . . i just got a new MacPro 2017 . .

i Installed a fresh version of Xcode 9.0 . .on top of Sierra 10.12.6

Eesentially on this new dev portable i have NOTHING else installed .. i am only using it for developement

of my first app.

So Far :

Mine runs ike a charm .. ( touches wood )

Cheers

Interesting data point, thanks, but curious, tho, why you'd not install latest Xcode v9.1

We're under absolutely no obligation to file bug reports to Apple for anything, let alone this issue in particular. The apparent issue is that Apple simply doesn't have enough development resources to properly 'bake' Xcode after updates, so every release is regression. Asking people to file a bug report for Xcode issues that every single iOS developer I talk to is experiencing every day is just sending them on a pointless quest in the hopes they'll forget about it. And please don't say "well otherwise how will they know Xcode has problems?" because there is no way Apple's own engineers aren't seeing the same issues (this may be the reason they are reputed to still be using Objective-C for most projects, because it actually compiles in a reasonable amount of time and works relatively well with auto-complete).

Maybe they still coding on 8.3.3...

XCode 9 is a disaster for me.

I had to split project storyboard into 7 files, some of them (sort of) work, some of them mostly don't )the size is pretty small, <130 Kb).

Sometimes I have to force-kill xCode every few minutes because it randomly hangs when opening a storyboard.

Storyboards work fine in 8.3.3 by the way - quite fast and stable (before xCode 9 I thought xCode 8.3.3 is very slow with storyboards lol).

XCode 9.0, 9.0.1, 9.1, 9.2 Beta 2 - all behave in this way.

I had huge performance issues with XCode 9.0 / 9.0.1 / 9.1 but with XCode 9.2 Beta 2 all performance issues are gone.

I would recommend everyone with performance issues to try out the new beta. It really works like a charm now, also on my old Macbook Pro Late 2012 🙂

Yep, Xcode 9.2 Beta 2 works really good with the storyboard. I hope they don't mess it up to the final release. I'm also using an older Macbook Pro.

I have to login to comment a agrrement with you guys. Xcode9 is so slow, and I couldn't work at all, just wait and see it indexing and compiling, all the time.

I have updated to Xcode9 and it is continously Loading at Signing Product.

Is it possible improve Xcode performance by increase Ram for MacMini?

Having the same issue here, sometimes it load and whole computer restart, this is killing me, especially when i am russhing a deadline for a project, it restart my computer more then 5 times, it almost kill me, horrible and bad, xcode8 work so much better then xcode9.

Hope the next update can fix all this performance issue. 😟
