Homekit for individuals.

I want to create homekit devices from home as individual, do i need an MFI license for this? At the MFI FAQ i read that you would need a manufacturer, but i want to create them just at my desk (It's only uploading firmware to a device, so i can do it at home.).

Have you talked to the device manufacturer about their process for uploading firmware?

I'm in a similar boat as you, I'm in the process of trying to learn about HomeKit and building external devices to communicate to. I have a dev kit that I've been using, and can put the network stack with Bonjour on it; no problem there. But I want to be able to control it from the HomeKit app; still trying to figure this out. But from what I have read, if you're just doing this for yourself at home, you don't need to be in the MFI program; there are a few things you can't do without the MFI certification, but for early development, it isn't necessary. The big part is the authentication token, that is ONLY for MFI program applications, and is required for selling of a product. Beyond that it seems to be basically the same.

So a lot of typing, to say, no you don't need to be in the program for your own development.

Hi David,

thank you for your message. I have downloaded the specifications.

However where to start ? Is there an SDK or a library to integrate it in a device (device comply with requirements) ?

Regards,

Steph
