Just throwing this out there...
I wondered if Apple would start doing a milestone reward (similar to the YouTube play button) for developers that reach app download mile stones (100,000 / 1,000,000 / 10,000,000) It could be silver/gold/diamond apple logos framed in a presentation box with developer name, thank you, Tim Cook signature etc.
It is a reward incentive that is well received, respected and appreciated within the YouTube community. I'm sure it would have a similar response from the app developer community. Especially as new, young developers decide to learn app dev and set off on this journey.
As an indiviual developer, there are many factors that make me strive to increase downloads and release more apps. However, a milestone recognition reward would be an amazing boost and goal to aim for.
Giving some recognition to the success of developers!
