keychain problem

Hello, I have a new Mac running Sierra and it seems that in the login keychain one is unable to rename keys. I imported a private key nd thenI imported its public key as described here (direct import from keychain gave error message)

https://superuser.com/questions/704692/cant-import-public-key-into-osx-keychain

And now it is called "Imported Public Key". I would like to rename it to match the name of its corresponding private key but I am unable. In Yosemite I was able to rename the keys without problem. I am the administrator of my Mac, as before. Please help. It is very annoying to have it called "Imported Public Key" . I open the attributes dialog to change the name of the key and click on "Save" but the change is not saved.😕

I had exactly the same problem. My Macbook has Sierra installed, and I could not rename the key in Keychain Access.

I tried it on an older Mac running El Capitan and I was able to rename it just fine.

It seems that Apple has removed the ability to rename a key in Sierra.

I am able to rename public keys in Keychain on macOS Sierra(10.12). Is your login keychain unlocked? If so, you should be able to select the item, choose GetInfo, change the name in the dialog, and then Save your changes.

I hope you figured it out, but if not, toggle the Access Control settings, check "Confirm before allowing access / Ask for a keychain password" and then back as needed. That would allow you to rename after reentering the Keychain Access password
