Unable see device in xcode

So just recently I updated xcode from 8.3.3 to 9, and swift 3 to swift 4. I did this so that I could use the newest version of iOS 11. The problem is, that now I am unable to see my device as an option to run my app on. Not sure if I accidentally turned on some setting or the conversion messed something up.

I am running High Sierra on a VM, with Windows as the host. I had to add High Sierra as a new OS to install xcode 9. This is my 3rd Mac OS on the VM with the same exact settings as the two previous versions, and the device works perfectly on the other versions (El Capitan, and Sierra). So I don't see the VM as the problem (although I am not ruling it out).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you run iTunes on the same ‘Mac’ as you run Xcode, does it show your iOS device?

I does not show the device in iTunes either. It shows the device in both the VM toolbar, and the Mac System Profiler tho. I did notice that when the device is plugged in there is a connection sound followed by a disconnection sound coming from the Mac.

I've been looking into this problem. It seems to be purely a VM (VirtualBox) problem. Still not sure how to fix it, but at least I'm possibly moving in the right direction.

Xcode and iTunes seem to be very picky about how airtight the chain is between themselves and wired devices.

If your VM clouds the sanctity of Apple's IDE, I suspect there isn't much you can do towards convincing it otherwise, short of giving up on the VM as currently configured.

As an alternative, have you attempted wireless debugging, yet?

I does not show the device in iTunes either.

If you can’t get iTunes working, Xcode is not going to work.

It seems to be purely a VM … problem.

I think that’s very likely. Searching the ’net this seems to have cropped up many times over the years. I recommend that you escalate this via the support resources for your VM solution.

Alright, thanks. I'll keep looking around. Almost certain that it is a VM problem.

Sierra 10.12.6 sees my iPhone 5 10.3.3 perfectly using VirtualBox 5.2.2 but Xcode 9.1 and Itunes 12.7.1.14 do not.

Sierra 10.12.6 sees my iPad 10.3.3 perfectly using VirtualBox 5.2.2 but Xcode 9.1 and Itunes 12.7.1.14 do not.

Sierra 10.12.6 sees my iPhone 4 9.3.5 perfectly using VirtualBox 5.2.2, Xcode 9.1 builds and runs app on iPhone

I double dog dare you to figure this out. I have wasted a HUGGGE number of hours on it.

My research also shows that MAC hardware users have the same problem.
