Font Rendering Consistency: simulator vs device

Hi,

I'm just wondering if the simulator uses the identical typographic system as the equaivalent device/OS it's simulating? It would be nice to know that the simulator can be used for pixel-perfect inspections for text.

Bonus question: Composites from designers that I work with, are annotated with font sizes. When I use the equivalent (i.e., half) point size on an iPhone 6, and isnpect in the simulator at 100% scale, the dimensions of the string just don't match the composite - the simulator is usually a little larger. Does anyone have any experience why? Given an identical font (these are non-system fonts so we are using the otf/ttf inside the app), I would guess that the typography system inside the designers' tools are just slightly different from that of iOS.

I have had issues with trying to match a designer’s font, when he was using Photoshop on Windows. (DPI of the Photoshop file are a typical culprit, though usually the difference would be more than just a little.)

I am not aware of differences between Simulator and device, for what it’s worth.
