Unicode characters missing from San Francisco

Some of the text strings in MuseScore 2, a music-notation application, include the characters U+266D, U+266E, and/or U+266F, which are missing from the version of the San Francisco fonts available at https://developer.apple.com/fonts/. I'm trying to figure out why those text strings display properly for some users but not for others.

I've been able to come up with only two theories:

1. Some of the versions of macOS 10.11 and later have included versions of San Francisco that do include U+266D, U+266E, and U+266F.

2. Some of the versions of macOS 10.11 and later have used a combination of San Francisco and Helvetica Neue (which does include the three characters).

Either of these might explain why one user, who has macOS 10.11.6, sees the three characters (see here) while another user, who has macOS 10.12.6, does not (see here).

However, at least one user of macOS 10.12.6 sees the characters displayed properly (see here) and at least one user of the same version of macOS does not (see here). I can't for the life of me think of how to explain this.

There is a hardware difference between these two users of 10.12.6. The one who can see the characters displayed properly has a Retina screen while the one who cannot see the characters displayed properly does not have a Retina screen. But I can't see why that would have anything to do with it.

If anyone has any theories or explanations, I'd be grateful for your input.

Thanks.

PS: There's a thread on the MuseScore forum on the issue, which hasn't yielded an answer.
