NTP and Manual Time Zone

Does anyone know a way to be able to manually set the Time Zone, but still let time update automatically?

These two functions, Time Zone and Time are completely different things but somehow appear to have been munged into a single setting in iOS (don't know exactly when, but I don't think it's always been like this).

The setting I see is Settings->General->Date & Time->Set Automatically

I have a bunch of iPads that are on aircraft flying around the world. I want them all to display UTC, but I don't want to have someone manually set the clock (because they get it wrong all the time).

So what I'm after is the magic to say "Don't set the time zone but do set the time".

This is not the right forum for such question. And probably you would find an answer on the web. However, would this provide the solution ?

How to change time zones on your iPhone and iPad

Before you can manually change the date and time, you need to disable the set automatically feature.

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Date & Time.
  4. Tap Time Zone.
  5. Enter the name of the city of the time zone you desire.
  6. Tap the city from the list below that you want. If the city you are looking for isn't listed, you'll need to choose a city within the time time zone you're looking for. Most major cities should be available.

Thanks Claude, but that's not my question. I am not a simple end-user trying to find out how to set a time zone.

The problem I have is that when one of my users does exactly what you've explained, the iPad never ever ever attempts to set its clock from the time servers again.
