Mojave install on Fusion drive stuck

Trying to install Mojave on an iMac 5K with a fusion drive. The install proceeds normally, but eventually just stops with: "com.apple.StorageKit error code 118". I'm guessing the fusion drive APFS compatibility isn't quite ready yet.

Anyone else having this experience? Any options here other than clean reinstall Mac High Sierra or format the drive to APFS then try clean install Mojave?

Posting from a late 2012 27" iMac with fusion drive. The install used APFS and Mojave working well enough.

This was over the top of the latest High Sierra beta.

Thanks for the reply. Mine was over the latest High Sierra public release.

Posting from a iMac Retina 5K 27" 2017 with Fusion drive. Installed Mojave over High Sierra. The installation went very smoothly... unlike last year when an early beta bricked the first version of this machine trying to convert Fusion drive to APFS. Happily Apple replaced it.

I had that experience with the same "com.apple.StorageKit error code 118" error. I did end up reformatting the drive as APFS and then installing 10.14 beta 1 — and that worked fine. A bit painful but all good now.

Having a similar issue, see https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/104471

In my case, my Fusion drive is formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled) since High Sierra doesn't support APFS on Fusion drives ... so there's no way for me to reformat to APFS under High Sierra unless I'm missing something ...

I had the same issue today on iMac 5K 27" with a fusion drive. A previous installation of macOS Mojave 10.14 Beta 4 apparently messed up the main partition. The recovery partition seemed to be OK, because it enable me to retart the computer and do a restore from a Time Machine backup with a Mojave Beta 3 installation.

The second try for installing Beta 4, it went somewhat better but it got stuck at the beginning of the installation process. Two hints gave me the idea that something was not right: 1) my Time Machine drive had its lights off even though it was connected to the computer, ehich is not normal at all; and 2) there was no prevision how long the installation would take.

Solution: I did a hard restart using the power button and pressed Command + R. I thought the computer would restart on the recovery partition, but apparently it was smart enought to detect that an installation on the main partition got stuck and instead restarted the installation process on the main partition. After that, everything went smoothly.

Does that error render your computer unusable or does it simply mean you are back where you started?

Right now I have an iMac that is stuck on pre-release High Sierra and cannot upgrade becuase APFS Fusion Drive support was released for High Sierra public. The recommend upgrade path is painful so I would be happy to hear if Mojave is a viable alternative without risks of digging a deeper hole.
