Update Apple ID phone number

I keep receiving a badge on System Preferences>iCloud advising me to update my Apple ID phone number. But when I open the iCloud app and click 'continue' by the Update phone number? choice, nothing happens. If I go into Security within account details, there's my appropriate phone number. Also happening on my iOS 12 iPhone.
