To whoever is making changes to behaviour of the forums:
Having the username appear consistently, whether logged in or not, is a nice change - less potential confusion for new posters.
However, I (and others) have found that we are unable to edit or delete our messages on most/all browsers now - we just get the waiting bar.
Same thing here, can't find a browse that will work to do this. Just get the sideways barber pole.

I've found that I am able to edit the problematic posts after logging out and logging in again, although I've also gotten strange errors about not being able to display some page content after I submit the edit (but the edit seems to work).
I don't seem to be able to get that to work... tried it with Safari and Firefox on 2 Macs but no joy.
Oddly I get one or two edits from a frshly downloaded browser and then no more despite clearing cache and cookies and restarting cold.
I wonder if the recent spam storm has something to do with the current flakiness...

It started for me (with Safari at least) about 6 hours before the spam (well, the spam that I noticed anyway).
The change in the naming convention (my name appearing as my username instead of my account name whether I'm logged in or not) seemed to occur about 12 hours before that...
So I think, like you said, someone is tinkering 🙂
Some idiot kept posting something in a language not Enlish. I assumed it was the same old Indian Astrologer type junk.
There were hundreds of posts.
It seems to have stopped working, or I was just lucky and happened to hit a random window of opportunity where editing was working earlier.
Korean spam...big time flood of multiple posts that seem to have been cleaned up, thankfully. Price we pay for the community at large being able to post, I guess.
